Lost Bendigo Photos – Benjamin Pierce Batchelder 1826-1891, photographer.
Dated 1861 Bendigo Gaol shows two brick buildings, a stone gateway, and brick wall stretching right across the centre of the photo. This photo was taken during the construction before the medium-security prison formally began incarcerating prisoners in 1863 and was reproduced in the writings of the American on the goldfields of Victoria and was apart of the 1861 collection of Bendigo Views.
